Tell us about your community building activities in 2020?

The Bridgeport Strong Community Collective was formed with the importance of unifying the bond between people, action & change. One of our biggest missions in 2020 was to demand that our mayor recognize gun violence as a critical & preventable public health problem in our city. Young people of color have passed away at an alarming rate here & raising awareness to this issue was essential. “March For Our Lives” followed and hundreds came out to showcase their concerns. A safe place was created.

What community building goals did you accomplish or milestones did you hit in 2020?

Within only a couple of weeks we were able to put together with other effective organizations, impactful protests, voting rally’s, drives, informational sessions, press conferences, food donation events, givebacks & more. We also went into the low income neighborhoods & were able to get significant numbers registered to vote. The voting events that took place were very well attended & shown a great amount of youth support increase that our city never seen, we truly came together to commit as 1.
