Entrepreneur

Company/organization description

Reis Learning Center is an independent learning center which provides 1:1 academic support. At RLC, each student is treated to an individualized academic program that caters to his or her specific needs. These programs will help fill in any gaps they may have in their learning history, promote positive study habits, and foster self advocation skills. We work with students to not only increase their academic knowledge, but also to foster personal growth and increase self-esteem.

Tell us about the entrepreneurial milestones you accomplished?

In February 2020, Reis Learning Center expanded to include The Reis Learning Center Classroom. This growth was in response to the success of our small group classes and workshops. In order to preserve a quiet, focused space for our 1:1 students and provide a welcoming space for new workshop clients, RLC added a new location. Here we partner with local entrepreneurs to offer enrichment classes for all ages and have a line of handmade gifts for sale from woman-owned small businesses.

What type of entrepreneur are you?

How do you train, educate or prepare entrepreneurs

The core of what we do is build students' confidence in their abilities. Fostering this belief at a young age is vital to future success and possibility. We work with students on positive self talk (changing defeating internal dialogue such as "it's too hard" or "I can't" to more adaptive thoughts such as "I'm going to need to think about this") so that they may see difficult problems as challenges to rise to rather than barriers to their success. We teach them to self advocate and ask for help.

What impact did your program have in 2020?

All students and parents reported increases in academic performance and/or self-confidence. Personal bests range from remaining calm in classes that otherwise caused anxiety to teaching peers tips and tricks to honor roll statuses. Evidence of our students' growth comes in more forms than just test scores and we're so proud of all of their achievements. RLC is so proud to have just entered into our 7th year of "Inspiring academic and personal growth" for students from multiple school districts.
