Tell us about your community building activities in 2020?

In April 2020, I received my government issued stimulus check, and used those funds to register and found Naugatuck Valley Soup Kitchen. It is a soup kitchen delivery service in my hometown of Naugatuck, fighting food insecurity by providing three fresh dinners a week to those in need! This has given folks a chance to meet their neighbors, helps those in need, and do good in their community.

What community building goals did you accomplish or milestones did you hit in 2020?

We serve over 400+ meals a week to those in need. We have kept ourselves funded through bake sales, and achieved our Bakery License in December 2020.

Nominator Justification

NVSK is an established 501c3 non profit, a licensed and insured Food Establishment, and Bakery. Carly and NVSK has gotten a community wide effort from Naugatucks Mayor Hess and his burgesses, small businesses, to everyday citizens to battle food insecurity in our distressed community. CARLY has used her stimulus check to start a nonprofit organization, the Naugatuck Valley Soup Kitchen, in April 2020. She has grown to be able to feed 150+ people 3 times a week! An amazing addition to our community.
