Biomedical Entrepreneurship is a multidisciplinary course offered at UConn which graduate students and honors or advanced undergraduates with the purpose of training them to be life science entrepreneurs. The course provides a comprehensive overview of key elements involved in identifying clinical needs and key elements for commercialization of biomedical-based R&D.

How do you train, educate or prepare entrepreneurs

Students have the opportunity to dive into fundamental concepts around various business models, protection of intellectual property (IP), capital and financing, mathematical modeling of business valuation and transactions. Throughout the course, participants work collaboratively to solve problems using medical technology innovations and are coached by industry experts to address fundamental issues.

What impact did your program have in 2020?

Students worked collaboratively in a virtual environment to do comprehensive research into industry trends and create their own biomedical device business models. This course made it possible for traditional researchers and life science students to take this developed knowledge and apply it to real life, practical solutions.

Biomedical Entrepreneurship is a multidisciplinary course offered at UConn which graduate students and honors or advanced undergraduates with the purpose of training them to be life science entrepreneurs. In the Fall 2020 semester, 20 students worked collaboratively to solve problems using medical technology innovations and were coached by industry experts to address fundamental issues in the field.
