The Women’s Business Center provides support to women entrepreneurs and small business owners in greater Hartford and CT through training, business advising, technical assistance, networking and other events. The WBC is hosted under the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford. Operating with a small dedicated team and on the strength of many partnerships in the community, supported by the Small Business Administration and other organizations. WBC strives to educate, connect and support women entrepreneurs, celebrating their successes and advocating for change.
What are the coolest, most popular features of your program? (<500 characters)
WBC is a long-standing resource (celebrated 20 years in 2019) with a solid reputation. Center programs (mostly free or low-cost) highlight a broad range of relevant current topics. New content and innovative delivery is sought. Programs support small business owners by engaging them as presenters. Business advising is done in a supportive non-judgmental environment. Technical assistance programs offer practical support. Some more popular programs are: Power and Progress Symposium, Women’s Business Roundtable, Ladies Who Lunch series, marketing panels, Business Matchmaker.
What impact did your program make is 2019? (<500 characters)
In program year 2019, WBC assisted 790 individuals through training, advising, technical assistance and events. Over 600 jobs and 46 start-up businesses were supported. The Center recently celebrated in 20th anniversary and served its 10,000th client. Clients value the breadth of training programs, the advice and support received through advising and technical assistance, the connections made at the networking events (including at the CT Business Matchmaker). The increased confidence, improved knowledge and expanded network set them on the path to business growth and success.

The Women's Business Center celebrated its 20th anniversary in October 2019, and is a valuable, reputable and sought-after resource for women entrepreneurs and small business owners.
