What community-building goals did you accomplish or milestones did you hit in 2019? (<500 characters)
Thank you for joining me in community building and leadership development opportunities every year. Robust relationships and impactful community endeavors are oxygen to my soul. I would have had many more community activities than what I share below, but my focus shifted to family care while both of my parents battled cancer. They are doing well. Family is where “community” begins. My love for all people flows from an abundance of love and value my parents have given and modeled for me.
My board memberships at Camp Courant and Special Olympics CT provide opportunities to recruit new funding and supporters through participation at events: 5K, Buddy Bash, Opening Day ceremonies, Law Enforcement Day, SOCT Winter Games, Awards Banquet, Northern Time Trials, Over the Edge, partnership with Monza Foxwoods race adventure for athlete teams, to name a few. These connect individuals and local businesses with a cause, providing personal and community enrichment.
Many initiatives empower women through education, networking and community building. My passion is help women along their success journey. I led a workshop for the University of Hartford LEAD Group (A leadership group of 25-28 women) about recognizing and protecting against the pitfalls of imposter syndrome. I’m returning to lead a self-care strategies workshop. I’ve also run a personal branding workshop at the Hartford YWCA for women in all career stages.
Serving on the Business Women’s Forum Board, we develop and execute planning, marketing and implementation of Connecticut’s largest full-day women’s conference. With 700+ attendees in 2019, guests participated in workshops and networking sessions for career enhancement.
Women and power tools? Yes! I recruit women for Hartford Habitat’s Women Build to construct homes in the Hartford region. My teams range from 20-60 participants each year.
Komen New England’s mission is personal- I’m an 18-year survivor and my mom just completed year one. I recruit individuals for the More Than Pink Walk-- a time of celebration and support! This is a family-friendly activity to get exercise outdoors and promote an incredible mission. Watch for team “We Are Stronger Together!”
Kids hold a sweet spot in my heart, so I actively read to children at DiLoretto School and others as a member of Women United and introduce business women and men to the amazing work of Junior Achievement. I hosted 40 of my community connections at the 2019 JA Annual Partners in Achievement Breakfast. The committee’s collective efforts resulted in over 600 attendees.
As a Certified Health/Wellness Coach, I educate individuals on the benefits of being outdoors and maintaining healthy connections. Therefore, I formed “The Girlfriend’s Guide to Healthy Living” for women to meet new friends, learn healthy living tips and create a supportive network. Monthly, I host a local event for women to meet somewhere beautiful for a hike. New members are joining regularly.
We are all in this life together and when we enhance the strength and resilience of our community, everyone benefits. I look forward to building a stronger community with all of you in the years ahead!
