Tell us about your community-building activities in 2019 (<500 characters)

With the goal of making Hartford a forward thinking insurance capital, my community-building activities have ranged from speaking engagements for notable insurance organizations and events throughout the US, to serving on the Advisory Council of Technology for CT’s Insurance Dept., to providing thought leadership and sharing InsurTech insights with students from UConn and the University of Hartford, mentoring startups through the CT Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Regardless of whether a startup is in our program, I altruistically make time to mentor, advise, and make connections for entrepreneurs.

What community-building goals did you accomplish or milestones did you hit in 2019? (<500 characters)

As managing director of Hartford InsurTech Hub (HIH), we have helped create and retain nearly 190 jobs, scale 159 startups, and drew $9.5 million in private matching funds. HIH completed its second year with success: accelerated 10 startups with funding of $35M, secured 22 partnerships, and attracted 550+ attendees for Demo Day in Hartford. We’ll kick off our third cohort with 11 startups in Feb.
