Company/organization description (<500 characters)
The STEMIE Coalition was a non-profit startup that went the full distance from concept to exit with immense (and continued) impact after four years.
The STEMIE Coalition spun out from the Connecticut Invention Convention in 2015 to teach K-12 students worldwide how to create new products and companies and invent their own future, STEMIE (STEM+Invention+Entrepreneurship) started from scratch and rolled up more than 600 events and programs across the U.S. under one non-profit coalition, and created curriculum, teacher training, software, and an affiliate network that now is scaling invention education all across the U.S. and the world. STEMIE had a rare non-profit exit to (acquired by) The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation to be their global outreach arm for kids.
Today, the re-branded Invention Convention Worldwide is the leading K-12 Invention Education program in America.
Tell us about the entrepreneurial milestones you accomplished in 2019 (<500 characters) e.g., patents received, growth rate, and successful MVP, trial, or exit, etc…
Invention Convention's impact reaches across CT and the world. The program now teaches 120,000+ students annually across the U.S. and 10 countries and hosts the National and Global Invention Convention competitions. Each year, 150 kids from all across CT compete at U.S. Nationals. Key in 2019, we: initiated our first region-wide/all-students trial in Tampa, FL to ultimately train all 600,000 local students in invention and entrepreneurship annually; partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs for afterschool programs; allied with Harvard Dept of Economics to close the Innovation Gap in America for underserved students; and helped launch the "Invention Education" movement in America so all kids can be trained to be inventors and entrepreneurs. Our 10-year goal is to impact 1.5m students annually. Additionally we continue to support and mentor students in CT and elsewhere to pursue their inventions towards commercialization through spawned companies, with multiple CT Invention Convention students regularly pitching at CT Next for growth funding.
