Washington Depot

Organization/institution description (<500 characters)

Founded in 1999, ASAP! is a social profit organization recognized as the place for quality and innovative arts education year-round offering literary, performing, visual, and culinary programs for pre-k through adult. We reach 9,000+ children a year from all walks of life throughout Connecticut. Our program impacts kids by exposing them to experiential learning opportunities that encourage them to think creatively, ask questions, and explore possibilities.

How do you train, educate or prepare entrepreneurs? (<500 characters)

We prepare the teaching artist by encouraging them to share their passion and continually challenge themselves with every program they teach with ASAP!. We regularly meet with them to find ways we can improve and remain successful. We provide resources for our artists to use sustainable materials, which strengthens their sense of reusable options and cost-efficiency.

What impact did your program have in 2019? (<500 characters)

2019 included 100+ workshops for students’ pre-K - adult, summer camp serving 160+, inter-district and programs in-and-after school serving 2,000+. Our programs stay current with world issues such as ASAP!'s Empathy 2020 where 175 9th graders and teachers learn about different aspects of the Holocaust and how it relates to today. Students then have the unique opportunity of working with professional artists to observe, reflect on, and respond to their experiences, through music, movement, film, and sculpture.

What people are saying about ASAP! After School Arts Program...

ASAP! is a Washington, CT education nonprofit that fosters hands-on learning through the arts. What started as a small after-school arts program has blossomed in a Western CT/NW CT diverse organization serving multiple towns and constituents. The secret sauce of ASAP! is its ability to get world-class teaching artists (like Michale Moschen or dancers from Pilobolus) to teach children. The result is transformational. Shy, timid kids arrive at workshops only to leave as creatively confident change makers.
