Company/organization description (<500 characters)

Angel Investor Forum (AIF), the Connecticut based angel group founded in 2004 - is an investor group of men and women comprised of 45+ angel investors from CT, NY & MA. Annually, over 350 early stage / startup companies submit investor decks / business plans and approx. 40+ companies are invited to “Pitch” to AIF members for angel capital investment consideration. AIF members meet monthly at Fairfield University's Dolan School of Business and always welcomes prospective members that are accredited investors.

How are you/your organization involved in funding CT startups and/or scaleups? (<500 characters)

Every year, AIF members individually invest in dozen(s) of startup ventures in CT and throughout the Northeast region. AIF members not only invest their money, but they also volunteer a tremendous amount of their time to help build, grow and nurture CT’s early stage tech startup community. AIF members regularly meet with startup entrepreneurs and invest their time to advise, guide, coach, mentor and connector these entrepreneurs to the resources that they need to fund, launch and scale their startup ventures. Many AIF members frequently serve as judges for startup competitions & pitch events, investor panelists, community speakers and angel trainers throughout New England and New York area - but like to focus their efforts on the CT based ecosystem. AIF sources potential investments by meeting entrepreneurs at local pitch events, accelerators, incubators, university entrepreneurial programs. Also, AIF works closely with and receives funding referrals from its active syndication efforts with many angel groups, CT Innovations, family offices & other investor syndicates throughout New England, New York and the Northeast region.

What was the impact or what milestones were accomplished due to your investments in 2019? (<500 characters)

In 2019 - AIF celebrated its 15th Anniversary as a CT based very active group of angel investors. AIF members have made dozens of investments annually throughout those years in early stage startup ventures in CT and the Northeast US. In Jan. 2019, many individual AIF investors along with the AIF Seed Fund I -- were thrilled with a successful and fruitful exit from AIF’s $1 Million++ investment (funded in 2014) in the CT-based startup venture - Device42. During 2019, many of the AIF members who benefited from the Device42 exit, then reinvested their proceeds and new money into multiple seed & early stage companies located in the CT region. During the last 12 months, AIF's Board of Directors, its members and NE angel leaders & colleagues together led 3 training sessions at Fairfield University to educate the AIF angel members, prospective angels and the local investor community (120+ participants) on the ""World of Angel Investing".
